bike safety. spring 2013.

one of the cub scout requirements is to learn bike safety, and since we lived within a mile of the school in Idaho Falls and our kids are not bused to school, as soon as t's warm enough most kids choose to ride their bikes to school.  the school was doing an incentive to get the kids to ride their bikes for 30 days.  if they did they got some small prizes and a t-shirt.

My friend, Jandy decided that it would be a good idea to host a bike safety night over at the church.  she did a great job and got some local officers to come over and teach bike safety basics to fulfill the scout requirements, hand signaling and the importance of wearing our bike helmets.  We had a bbq and potluck and there was a great turnout!

The kids loved the bike obstacle course they had to complete!

cub scouter.

brady's first night as a cub scout happened to be the blue and gold banquet.  he earned his blue & gold segment, his cake segment and emergency preparedness segment.

for the cake segment, each scout needed to help their parent(s) design, prepare and decorate a cake.  brady chose a wolf using german chocolate cake and frosting (because he thought the frosting would look like the fur!)  we thought i came out pretty cute for not being experts! (and it was very tasty as well!!!) we added whipping cream to the cake mix and poured a little bit over the top before frosting it so it would soak into the cake.  it was very moist!

some of the other very creative cakes!  i was quite impressed!

we are so proud of our growing boy and his desire to participate in good activities!
